While in a discussion with a client, who heads a Training & Consulting Company, we talked about why many people hit the wall professionally. Lending the wisdom from Ezekiel 33:13, even a righteous man won’t be covered by his history of righteous acts when he resorts to fraudulent practices. He will bear the consequences of his actions! That first part of the verse reads, “When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live but trusts in his own righteousness and commits inquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered”

So many people coast through life believing all is well professionally because they’re still getting results today. You can really go far with excellent Work Skills. But work skills are simply not enough to rise into and survive in management positions. Like one fellow who rose through the ranks by sheer dint of hard work. But work skills proved insufficient for sustained success after he was made Manager. Former colleagues and other staffers started resigning. Eventually the company fired him! This man lacked People Skills.

According to Paul Flintoff, People Skills are simply how you communicate with people, whether they be friends, family, work colleagues, clients etc.  Before we move on to explaining the different areas of people skills, let us remind you of one point: they are vital for long-term success and happiness in both personal, career and business life.  It is usually those people who have excellent communication skills who have more fulfilling relationships and rise to the top of their chosen fields.

Many job descriptions require good people skills, and companies even conduct seminars to improve people skills. What does this concept mean exactly? At its most basic, having good people skills means behaving in a way that make people like you and feel comfortable around you. It isn't really all that difficult to cultivate a few behaviors that constitute good people skills. They are of great benefit not only with co-workers and customers, but in making happier relationships with friends and family, and widening your circle of acquaintances.
