And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them… - Exodus 15:23-25

Problems usually leave people either bitter or better. The question here is, “Why these differences in effects?” One word - Leadership! One group needs while the other side provides. While the crowd rambles, “What's the answer to this situation?” a leader stands out pointing the way through. In the bible text above, the children of Israel got to Marah and the water was undrinkable although they were desperately thirsty. Notice the reaction of the multitude; And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? The multitude usually has no answer, only questions, allegations and accusations. They will always point away from themselves for answers when problems arise. 

But the leader who relies on God will always be sought out for answers. This was Moses' character. Whenever problems arose he went to God, got the answers and then acted promptly. He had confidence in God and his own capabilities as well. It was Horace Bushnell who said, “He who has confidence in himself will lead the rest.” To lead the rest, you must have confidence. Trust in what you have tested and proven. The truth is, problems will arise in life, and usually you may not be forewarned. If you don't want trouble, stay away from leadership! It has been said that if you can't face the music, you'll never get to lead the band.

You may not see anything extraordinary about yourself, but the reality is that Leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination. That is what makes you the leader. Be encouraged, you have all it takes to stand out from the crowd. You have all you need to stay up front. Just stand your ground. A solution will always show up.
