TVB 67: FULFILLING BUSINESS VISION

BUSINESS TRAINING:

WHAT IS VISION?

A Vision is an ideal or a goal toward which one aspires. It is usually the background of a Business. It's the answer you give when someone asks, "...What do you have in mind for your Business?"

It determines your Business focus and ultimately the Product and Services you invest resources in for certain customers.

SCRIPT YOUR BUSINESS VISION

It is smart to properly write it out plainly so that everyone involved and anyone who requires the results from your vision will know where to get it. It is never too late to properly write out your Business. For many, it’s the point where clear direction and profitable actions begin.

We all face challenges with fulfilling Business vision. Eventually some fail, but many others succeed. A well described Business vision will offer a steady ground whenever challenges arise. You can be one of the Successful ones! You just need to ‘...Eliminate the little foxes that wreck your vineyard’ (Ref: Songs of Solomon 2:15).

THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

One way to hinder the achievement of Business vision is to point an accusing finger in the opposite direction. It is, in other words, not taking responsibility! The business owner in our story pointed her accusing finger at her staff. The wisest man who ever lived wrote, “Watch your business interests closely…” (Ref: Proverbs 27:23 TLB). Whatever the expected goals may be take responsibility for your part.

Just look at the man in the mirror!

A Jewish proverb states, “If each one sweeps in front of his own door, the whole street is clean.” Avoid bad experiences that come from wrong actions or in-actions.

SET THE TONE!

I have since learnt that I set the tone for my employees’ delivery either consciously or inadvertently. They will eventually rise to be and do what they perceive I consider acceptable.

Is your Business experiencing high staff turnover or low levels of commitment? Check up on your employer-employee policies or practices. Has your marketing department been coming in short lately – check the targets being set. Are they realistic? Are your methods of achievement decent and humane? If it's low staff morale, what have you provided to inspire a better attitude?

Change starts with just one right action and this further engenders favourable chain reactions. When asked how she achieved staff promptness to work, one business owner said, “Oh, I get to work before my staff every day!” It has been said, “Take care of the pennies, the dollars will take care of themselves.”

THE MOST DIFFICULT ELEMENT IN BUSINESS VISION

The answer would seem obvious – People.  But which people? Usually when we say 'people' our index finger points in the opposite direction.

Consider the following scenario and make your own deductions:

A business Owner called in a Business Development consulting company to recommend, design and conduct training programs that would help build up the company's productivity. She seemed to know exactly where the problem was – with her staff.  If a man shows you the teeth marks of a dog bite, you would initially judge that the dog is wild or has something very wrong with it, especially if the victim is the dog's owner. Well, according to this business Owner, her staff needed to be straightened out in the areas of dedication to duty and more efficient Customer Service.

The consulting company duly presented their Recommendations and a Proposal. The business Owner said they underlined her brief well. Dates were fixed and necessary arrangements set. When, however, it was time to financially execute agreed plans, the business Owner went AWOL. And that is where the story ended!

Let me leave you with the words of Gilbert Arland who said, “When an archer misses the mark, he turns and looks for the fault within himself. Failure to hit the bull's-eye is never the fault of the target.”

You can share your comment on the what is needed to achieve Business Vision.

Cheers & God bless!
